More Brake Parts

I fabbed and installed the bulkhead that brings the brake fittings through the firewall.

The parking brake valve. This isn't part of the kit. It's a $110 option. At first I balked at paying that much, thinking it was a case of "It's an airplane part...airplane owners are rich...let's charge more." However, there actually is a bit of complexity to it, and now I think it's a bargain.

I wasn't sure how to mount it to the firewall, except that I wanted it to stand off a bit to make it easier to tighten the fittings (a factoid I got from other builder's Web sites.) This is where my reluctance to throw stuff away came to the rescue (apologies to Laura, my poor, suffering wife.) Many months ago, I screwed up the elevator trim servo mounting brackets. The were too close together, and the servo didn't fit between them. I ordered another, but kept the old one. What a perfect bracket for my parking brake valve! It even had a nice angle to help me get at the fittings.

My valve came with some documentation, so I added "closed" and "open" labels with a P-Touch label maker. I'm pretty sure this is just the sort of thing I might screw up when I attach the control cable!

Just then, we had a high-priority interrupt due to tantalizing smells wafting through the house. The Laura and the girls made a batch of chocolate chip cookies. Mmmm...walnuts!

Here's the bracket, cut to fit. All of this work was performed while the Redskins were losing 0-42, so every now and then I took a break and went up to see the score.

And here it is, installed on the firewall. I might install another pair of rivets.
